Female ghost (Lola) haunts the concession, arcade, and employee break room. Three others haunt the theaters. They especially like it when horror movies are playing. There is also a man haunting the upstairs and projection room.

I was recently at the theater for a movie, and everytime I go in, I feel maybe i could get a glimpse of lola....I was successful...I was In the arcade room against the far wall on the west side getting change for my little cousin, and i happened to glance over to the east wall and i saw a rather small figure wearing what seemed to be a blue dress? and the figure seemed to look up at me, then it stepped through the wall. Definitely made my pulse go up and i couldnt even enjoy the movie that night. I dont know if it was because i was scared, or if it was because i realized i had seen what i have been looking into for a long time... happy hunting

It seems to me that just about every theater has a ghost story surrounding it. There is two just in Tupelo alone. This is because theaters are places that feed wondrous fantasy to the multitudes of movie-goers coming in and out every week, and they are places that feed an abundance of boring mundanity to the workers, especially the concession workers. Psychologically, these two things makes theaters a victim for all sorts of tall-tales like ghost stories. Understand I'm not saying that this particular theater isn't really haunted, and I hate sounding like a skeptic. However, I think that even the most true-believer in ghosts understands that not all ghost stories are true. And sometimes the scientific explanation is true. That being said, I shall keep my eyes open the next time I go watch a movie at this theater (I have seen many movies there without seeing anything paranormal).
How did "Lola" get her name? Has anyone researched who these alleged ghosts might be?

I heard about the man haunting the projector rooms upstairs while I was growing up. This is the first I've heard of "Lola", however. The whole "particularly enjoys horror flicks" portion really sets me off thinking it's imaginations running haywire with rumors. I've been there several times and never seen nor felt any presense.

I agree to some extent about the "loves horror flicks" bit. This is another reason the story ended up in Folkelore. I reported this instance through research on the open web.

My name is Mike Curtis and I am a former manager of that theater. I first wrote about it for FATE magazine, and then gave an account for GHOSTLY GAZITTEER by Arthur Myers.
Yes, it was certainly haunted when I ran it, both as a twin then then when it expanded to a four screen.
And the booth particularly was haunted, although the name Lola is unknown to me.

Hi Mike, My name is Bill Pitts and I am with The New Southern View Ezine[/i] out of Jackson, Mississippi. We explore Mississippi for our readers. We've started a section in our publication called Creaking Floorboards (in our Scenic & Historic Mississippi section) where we'd like to feature Mississippi ghost stories. We have only one at this time, from the Siege of Vicksburg. I'd like to hear more about you experiences at the theater. Can you contact me? Thank you, Bill Pitts The New Southern View Ezinewww.newsouthernview.cominfo@newsouthernview.com
