I don' t know about the validity of this one, but the old people around Thaxton swear to this:
On Hooker Rd. in Thaxton, there is a hollow and in this hollow are pastures on either side of the road. There is a legend of headless horses that run in these pastures.
I have driven down the road several times at night and never seen anything. I have heard that you might have to be on foot. I have an uncle who claims to have seen the horses and there are still thoses who will not go down that road at night because of sightings when they were young.

That sounds like a good one to look into more. Any certain time of year or condition when it is seen more often?

not sure. I'm not even sure it's safe to walk down at night anymore. I'll check.
